About Us

Honorable Timothy Wanyonyi – Founder

Timothy Wanyonyi upon graduating with a degree in law was just piercing into the Kenyan dream with hope to set up unmatchable standards in legal practice. Like many educated Kenyans, his life seemed promising and ever improving. However, in 1998, he came face to face with criminals who shot him, leaving him devastated, motionless and unconscious. With a young family and paralyzed in a country where disability profiling is rife, Wanyonyi knew that he was to trend in a rocky path with dark hanging clouds. However, upon rehabilitation, he began to rebuild and to define a new life for himself and many other people living with spinal cord injuries in Kenya. He vowed not to let his disability suppress his dreams and determination to succeed. “Wanyonyi thought of the many paraplegics and other disabled people in Kenya, shackled by poverty, desperation and feelings of being unwanted. He decided to make a difference, hence teaming up with likeminded people to form the Kenyan Paraplegic Organization. Ever since, Mr. Wanyonyi has used his life to share messages of hope and inspiration to the downtrodden in Kenya. He has been a consistent advocate of the rights of the persons living with disabilities and a role model dedicated to improve the lives of people around him.” Through his leadership, the Kenyan Paraplegic Organization has emerged as a centre for the empowerment of paraplegics and an ever ascending player in disability advocacy. He is an anchor of inspiration to the people living with spinal cord injuries and indeed disabilities across Kenya.

KPOS Scope of Work

KPO has divided the country into the following regions: Western, Coastal, Southern, Central and Northern region. Out of these regions, the organization has identified the following anchor counties to implement its interventions in the target regions:

  1. Central Region – Anchor County, Nairobi (KPO Headquarters) – KPO will implement projects in Nairobi County mostly in the informal settlements. This anchor county will also be used as a pivot to interventions in the Central and Eastern region of the country.
  2. Coastal Region – The anchor county identified for this region is Mombasa County. This was chosen because of KPO’s past interventions in the county and the fact that it is strategically located to reach the other Coastal counties.
  3. Northern Region – The anchor county for this region will be Isiolo County. This was chosen because it is gateway to the Northern region of the country and a melting pot of various cultures.
  4. Western Region – The anchor county identified for this region is Kakamega County . This was chosen because of its strategic location, past association with provincial headquarters and the fact that in the Western region, the county was found to have the most people with physical disabilities.
  5. Southern Region – The anchor county identified for this region was Kajiado County. This was chosen because it is the county that hosts the KPO Rehabilitation Centre and a good number of the clients who will access services from its hospital arm will come from Kajiado County and its neighboring southern counties.
